Who We Are
At Yellow Springs Brewery, we brew exceptional beer every day in every batch. Founded in 2013, today we produce multiple core and packaged brands along with dozens of innovative seasonal beers. They can be found in restaurants and pubs in the Dayton and Columbus areas and in our taprooms in Yellow Springs and Columbus.
We believe that art gives life and that we flourish in play (especially outdoors). We’re committed to paying it forward because we are only as strong as our community. We make our own rules (and we break them). In crafting truth to power, we hope to launch a peaceful revolution.
WHAT IS CRAFTING TRUTH TO POWER?
We adapted our tagline from the pacifist Quaker religion phrase, speaking truth to power. This became widely known in the pamphlet “Speak Truth to Power: a Quaker Search for an Alternative to Violence” published in 1955 in opposition of the Cold War. The term, however, appears to have been coined earlier by civil rights leader Bayard Rustin. Speak Truth To Power is also the title of a global Human Rights initiative under the auspices of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights.
Over time, Speak Truth to Power has become a popular way to say “take a stand against power,” even if it means taking a stand against powerful people, institutions, or breweries.
How it affects Our Philosophy
We use this phrase a little bit tongue-in-cheek and a little bit seriously. As a small craft brewery, we believe in the right to, and necessity of, standing up to the larger, more powerful corporations in this country that have been delivering the same watered-down version of beer and brands for many years.
We believe that it is important to be independent and creative. We believe it is important to deliver interesting options for our customers and that customers deserve variety.
COLLABORATION & COMMUNITY
We believe strongly in supporting and partnering with other breweries and community organizations that are close to our hearts. We especially love to support the arts, independent media, nature and outdoor organizations. We believe that small independent breweries are stronger when we collaborate and support each other.
